Kericho is the capital of Kericho County in Kenya . The city is the center of the most important tea-growing area in the country. The city is 80 kilometers southeast of Kisumu . Kericho is home to the Kipsigis , who belong to the Kalendjin people .

From Kericho, three major highways lead to Nakuru , Kisumu and Kisii . Bus routes go to Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret and Bomet , among others . Kericho has a train station. Ten kilometers from Kericho there is a small airport for charter flights, Kerenga Aerodrome.

On March 29, 2000, a serious bus accident occurred near the town in which more than 100 people were killed.

Infrastructure

Kericho has a variety of schools, primary, secondary and high schools, as well as six colleges , including the Kenya Highlands Bible College, the Kenya Forestry College and the Kenya Institute of Management.
