Naftali Temu
Naftali Temu ( Nabiba Naftali Temu ; born April 20, 1945 in Sotik , Kericho , † March 10, 2003 in Nairobi ) was a Kenyan long-distance runner .
biography
At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston in 1966 , Temu appeared on the international track and field scene when he defeated world record holder Ron Clarke in the 6-mile race . Two days later, Temu finished fourth in the 3-mile race. Two years earlier Temu had at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the marathon is only a back seat.
At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, only Mamo Wolde was able to keep up with Temu in the 10,000-meter run . But Temu passed the Ethiopian 50 meters from the finish and won the race. In 5000 Meters Temu won the bronze medal. Temu also took part in the marathon a few days later , in which he reached 19th place.
After the successes in Mexico Temu was never able to build on his earlier achievements. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he was eliminated over 10,000 meters in the run.
Naftali Temu died at the age of 57 after a long and serious illness.
