history
In Roman times, the springs in the area around Berg en Dal were used in the construction of the Roman aqueduct , which was supposed to ensure the supply of the legionary site on the Hunerberg with water.
From the second half of the 19th century, the place began to attract tourists. In 1869 the well-known Hotel Groot Berg en Dal was built according to a design by the architect Cornelis Outshoorn . This was torn down again in 1971; in its place there is now an apartment complex of the same name . The connection to the Nijmegen steam tram network took place in 1891. In Berg en Dal and its surroundings, the construction of villas began intensively at this time, examples of which are the Huis Stollenberg , the Huys te Schengen and the Villa de Wychert (1907). Some of the villas are kept in the Swiss style, in some of them monastery communities have been settled, for example a Montfortan order in the Huyse de Uleput , a group of the Brothers of Mercy of John of God in Huis Herwarden , or some of the Daughters of Wisdom in De Kitselenberg .
In 1927 an auxiliary church was laid out, which was converted into a parish church in 1947. In 1966 the new church was built according to the design of the architect J. Strik.
