Carl Thackery

Carl Thackery (born October 14, 1962 in Sheffield ) is a former British long-distance runner .

Life

At the European Athletics Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart, he came over 10,000 m in 14th place, and at the Cross Country World Championships in 1987 he contributed with a 20th place to win the silver medal of the English team. In 1990 he set the current Commonwealth record (as of 2010) at 20,855 m every hour .

However, he was most successful in road runs . In 1985 he won the CPC Loop Den Haag and in 1989 and 1990 the Roma - Ostia races . In 1992 he finished 16th at the World Half Marathon Championships in South Shields and won silver with the British team, finished second at the Maratona d'Italia and won the Zevenheuvelenloop . The following year he won bronze in both the individual and team rankings at the World Half Marathon Championships in Brussels , and in 1994 he was third in the 20 van Alphen .

Carl Thackery started for the Hallamshire Harriers. Since the end of his sporting career, he has been taking care of people with autism and learning disabilities in the area of social work . He has been working for the United Response organization since 2007 and also appears for them as a charity runner.
