history

Coat of arms of the Landsmannschaft Vitebergia Halle

The name Vitebergia refers to the Latinized Wittenberg , with which many of the founding members were connected from January 18, 1860, so that the name of the connection was also Wittenberger Klike at first. Not much is known about the place of foundation and the exact circumstances.

Although the founding members were all Protestant theologians, the members ("Wittenbergers") were soon spread across many faculties, which has remained so to this day. The scientific association was officially registered at the Royal United Friedrichs University in 1867 and named "friendship, sociability, morality and science" as essential purposes. From July 13, 1867 to 1868, the Vitebergia belonged to the Waltershausen Association . In 1881 she was a founding member of the Gotha First Convent , from which she left in 1883. In 1883, Vitebergia referred to itself as a country team for the first time in a communication to the university senate. Due to disputes between active and old men about the direction of the connection, Vitebergia was suspended at the end of the summer semester of 1883 and only reactivated as the Vitebergia country team at the end of 1897. She then joined the German Landsmannschaft . This marked the beginning of a very successful phase for Vitebergia in Halle (Saale), which culminated in the purchase of the Wittenberg house in Heinrichstrasse in 1906. 18 (today Martha-Brautzsch-Str. 18) took place.

In the First World War , Vitebergia also suffered great losses, but the years between the two world wars were a boom. The social commitment with inexpensive student rooms, lunches, etc. contributed to this. In the Third Reich , student associations were gradually banned or converted into comradeships , since the democratic principle of the associations as a central component of the self-image was in no way compatible with the leadership principle of the National Socialists . The Third Reich thus marked the beginning of a phase in which Vitebergia was not present in Halle - after the summer semester of 1936, Vitebergia was suspended and was only able to organize active social life in Halle (Saale) again after 56 years, in 1991. Vitebergia was re-established in January 1991 by the Landsmannschaft Gottinga zu Göttingen , with whom Vitebergia has had a friendship since 1873 and with which it was merged from January 3, 1953 to January 19, 1991. With the re-establishment of Vitebergia in May 1991, after 38 years of joint existence during the period of German-German division, Gottinga redeemed the assurance given in the merger agreement of 1953 to support the re-launch of Vitebergia activities in Halle as soon as the political and university political ones came up Allowed conditions in central Germany.

Friendship relationships

Landsmannschaft Gottinga zu Göttingen

The friendship relationship with the Landsmannschaft Gottinga has existed since 1873. It arose from the endeavor of the connections to equal rights for students vis-à-vis the corps, which emerged in the 19th century, which was expressed through the joint work of both Graubünden members in the so-called bubble convents of the universities of Göttingen, Halle and Jena found. During the time of the German-German division, Vitebergia merged with Gottinga from 1953 to 1991.

Landsmannschaft Hansea on the Wels in Munich

The friendship relationship with the Landsmannschaft Hansea auf dem Wels in Munich goes back to their union of origin, Hansea Munich . After the "friendship alliance" with the Landsmannschaft Alsatia Berlin (today at Landsmannschaft Preußen Berlin ) and the Landsmannschaft Vitebergia had formed, the Landsmannschaft Hansea joined this cartel on June 6, 1927. However, Alsatia Berlin resigned from the friendship alliance in 1932, evidently one could not cope with various manners and customs in Halle and Munich. The friendship covenant can then be described as dormant, at the Whitsun Congress in 1991 the commonalities were rediscovered, and the friendship relationship subsequently officially maintained again in detail.
