Friedrich Kretschmann (born May 20, 1858 in Wolmirstedt ; † November 8, 1934 in Magdeburg ) was a German university professor for ear, nose and throat medicine . He founded the ENT clinic at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg .

Life

Kretschmann attended the Royal Victoria High School in Burg (near Magdeburg) . After high school he studied from 1876 medicine at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , the University of Tübingen and the Friedrichs University Halle . In 1878 he became active in the Landsmannschaft Gottinga zu Göttingen , in 1880 in the Landsmannschaft Vitebergia Halle . He passed the state examination in 1881 and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD .

Kretschmann initially took up a position as an assistant at Theodor Weber's medical clinic in Halle . The training to become a general practitioner took place here. In 1884 Kretschmann moved to the University Ear Clinic in Halle, where he became assistant to the well-known ear specialist Hermann Schwartze . During this time, various scientific work in the field of ear medicine was carried out . In 1887 he completed his habilitation. He was the only ear surgeon to settle in Magdeburg in 1888 and lectured at Friedrichs University until 1890 . In the three-year-olds he founded the ear, nose and throat department of the municipal hospitals in Magdeburg, to which today's Magdeburg University Hospital goes back.

The reputation of the University of Königsberg he refused.

Kretschmann was one of the founding members of the Society of German Ear, Nose and Throat Doctors . He was a long-time board member and two years chairman of the Medical Society of Magdeburg . From 1910 to 1914 he and Paul Manasse headed the editorial department of the Archive for Ear Medicine .

During the First World War , Kretschmann was senior physician general and specialist medical advisor to the IV Army Corps .
