General Senior Physician
The senior physician general was the head of the medical service in the German army during the imperial era in a division with the rank of lieutenant colonel . He corresponds to the senior medical officer of the Reichswehr and the Bundeswehr .
Until 1898 the rank was only intended for the case of war, then it became part of the standing army . He was subordinate to the division commander and the corps doctor .
In addition to the division physicians, there was a senior physician general each in the medical departments of the Prussian War Ministry and the Reichsmarineamt .
In the Imperial Navy , the senior physician general had the rank of frigate captain .
The rank should not be confused with the senior general physician, who was introduced around 1910/11 : This ranked major general.
