history

On December 15, 1879, the Landsmannschaft Nibelungia was founded by students and employees of the Philipps University of Marburg as a natural science and medicine association (NMV for short). In the early years the focus was solely on conducting scientific lectures, but social gatherings became more and more important and strengthened the feeling of togetherness.

After the NMV had joined the Cartell Association of Academic Scientific Associations at German Universities in 1885 , after its dissolution, together with other associations, in 1895 it founded the Cartel Association of Scientific and Medical Associations at German Universities (later renamed the Goslar Cartell Association ) first suburb of NMV led.

Since fewer and fewer students became members of scientific associations in the period after the First World War , but at the same time the color-bearing corporations were very popular, the NMV initially renamed itself Academic Association Nibelungia in 1920 and finally decided in 1922 on the black principle that had been in effect until then give up and become a colored and striking student union and join the German Landsmannschaft . In the following years, the membership of the Nibelungia country team increased again, so that it became one of the largest local country teams.

With the seizure of power by the National Socialists and the associated synchronization , the Landsmannschaft Nibelungia had to suspend in 1936. However, in 1937, under the name of NS-Kameradschaft Nibelungia, it was possible to continue federal life - albeit under strict Nazi guidelines - in a modified form, which took place under the strict supervision of the Gestapo .

After the end of the war, the Landsmannschaft Nibelungia was re-founded in 1947 as a scientific association for students in Marburg . It was not until 1950 that they called themselves Landsmannschaft Nibelungia again and in 1951 they joined the Coburg Convent .
