Heinrich Christian Johann Spoerl (born February 8, 1887 in Düsseldorf , † August 25, 1955 in Rottach-Egern ) was a German writer .

Life

The son of the engineer Heinrich Spoerl from Hadermannsgrün bei Hof, owner of JH Spoerl Maschinenfabrik, a factory for printing and paper processing machines in Düsseldorf, attended the Oberrealschule am Fürstenwall in Düsseldorf-Bilk from 1893 to 1905 (today's Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium , which however is no longer on Fürstenwall).

From 1905 Spoerl studied law in Marburg , Berlin , Munich and Bonn. He did his legal clerkship in Uerdingen , near Düsseldorf. From 1919 to 1937 he worked as a lawyer and owner of his own law firm in his home town of Düsseldorf. During his studies in Marburg he became a member of the striking association Landsmannschaft Nibelungia . In 1935 he became a member of the Reichsschrifttumskammer . In 1937 he moved to Berlin as a freelance writer and in 1941 to Rottach-Egern am Tegernsee in Upper Bavaria . In 1943 he became a member of the Reichsfilmkammer . Spoerl was not a member of the NSDAP, but published, for example, Der Gasmann as a serial novel in the party's magazine The Attack . In Rottach-Egern he practiced as a lawyer again from 1945 to 1948.

He became known through humorous novels , short stories and plays . If we were all angels , The Muzzle (with Ralph Arthur Roberts ), The Gasman and twice Die Feuerzangenbowle (with Heinz Rühmann ) were filmed . The famous second version, in which Spoerl wrote the script together with Rühmann and the actor partly directed it himself, was created in 1944. Already in 1934, based on the novel Feuerzangenbowle, the first version was produced under the title So ein Flegel , also with Rühmann in the main role. If we were all angels was filmed twice, once in the 1930s, also with Heinz Rühmann in the title role and again in the 1950s, in which Dieter Borsche and Marianne Koch played the main characters. In both cases, the outdoor shots were taken in the picturesque Moselle town of Beilstein.

In 1911 Spoerl married the actress Emma Pretzlik from Stockum (Bochum district), who brought an almost five-year-old daughter into the marriage and died after two years of marriage. Best man was his Düsseldorf friend Johann Müller-Schlösser, who was married to a younger sister of the bride. Both couples initially lived in Bilker Strasse 94. Since August 19, 1915, Spoerl was married to the concert singer Gertrud Kebben († 1947). Their son was the writer Alexander Spoerl . Heinrich Spoerl's grave is located in the new cemetery in Rottach-Egern / Bavaria.
