Priscah Jeptoo ( Priscah Jeptoo Chepsirot ; born June 26, 1984 in Chemnoet, Nandi County ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in road running.

Life

The daughter of the middle-distance runner Beatrice Samoei felt drawn to the longer distances at school, but did not manage to qualify for the youth national team. After graduating from Itigo Girls High School in 2004, she worked on her father's farm, who has eleven children with several women. In 2006 she was discovered by the marathon runner Martin Lel , who invited her to his training camp and referred her to the trainer Claudio Berardelli and the manager Federico Rosa. After she married her fellow runner Douglas Chepsirot and gave birth to her son Faustin Kipchumba in 2008, her first successes came.

In 2009 she won the Douro Valley Half Marathon, the Corrida Festas Cidade do Porto and set a course record in the Porto Marathon . The following year she won the Ribarroja del Turia half marathon, came second in the Maratona di Sant'Antonio and won the Turin marathon in 2:27:02 hours. In 2011 she won the Goyang Half Marathon. Then she won the Paris Marathon and improved her personal record by more than four minutes to 2:22:55 h. So she qualified for the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Daegu , where she won the silver medal. At the end of the year she set a course record at the Corrida Internacional de São Silvestre .

In 2012 she was third in the London Marathon behind her compatriots Mary Jepkosgei Keitany and Edna Ngeringwony Kiplagat and, like them, nominated for the London Olympic Games . There she won the silver medal in a time of 2:23:12 h. Later in the season she triumphed at the Portugal Half Marathon and at the São Silvestre de Luanda . In 2013, Jeptoo finished second in the RAK half marathon in the third fastest time ever achieved by a woman on a world record route, and won the London marathon and the Bogotá half marathon . She won the Great North Run in 1:05:45 h, which is not suitable for a record because of its huge gradient. In 2013 she won the New York City Marathon .

Priscah Jeptoo is 1.68 m tall and weighs 49 kg.
