Bezunesh Bekele (full name Bezunesh Bekele Sertsu , also Bizunesh Bekele ; born January 29, 1983 in Addis Ababa ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner .

She started three times at the Cross Country World Championships as a junior (with the sixth place in 2002 as the best place) and five times as an adult (with a ninth place on the short distance in 2006 as the best place). At the 2004 Half Marathon World Championships in New Delhi she was eighth and at the African Athletics Championships in 2006 in Bambous fifth in the 10,000 meter run . At the 2007 road running world championships in Udine she set her best time over the half marathon distance in fourth place with 1:08:07 h and won silver with the Ethiopian team. Further successes in road races include victories at the Montferland Run in 2004 and 2005, the Rotterdam Half Marathon in 2005, the Portugal Half Marathon and the Zevenheuvelenloop in 2007.

In 2008 she switched to the marathon route . Right away she ran 2:23:09 h and was second in the Dubai Marathon 2008; in the Chicago Marathon she came in seventh place. The following year, a time of 2:24:02 h was enough for her to win the Dubai Marathon. At the Boston Marathon she was fourth, and at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin she ran a 16th place.

In 2010 she was fourth in Dubai and the London Marathon and second in the Berlin Marathon .
