Catherina McKiernan
Catherina McKiernan (born November 30, 1969 in Cornafean , County Cavan ) is a former Irish long-distance runner .
She was once European champion (1994) and four times vice world champion (1992 to 1995) in cross-country skiing . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , she finished eleventh in the 10,000-meter run in 32: 00.38 minutes . Then she concentrated on the marathon route and won the Berlin Marathon in 1997 (2:23:44 h) and the following year the London Marathon (2:26:26 h) and the Amsterdam Marathon (2:22:23 h) ). These three times are the best any Irish runner has ever achieved over this distance.
A back injury prevented her active participation in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , instead she acted as co-commentator for Radio Telefís Éireann .
In 2004 she retired from competitive sports and now works as a running consultant.
