Niklas Zender (born August 28, 1990 in Trier ) is a German athlete who runs the sprint to medium distance , especially the 400-meter run .

Niklas Zender has been with LG Eintracht Frankfurt since the beginning of 2011 , previously he was active for LG ovag Friedberg-Fauerbach . The medical student is trained by Volker Beck and Nick Dakin. He has competed internationally since 2007. At the 5th U18 World Championships of the year in Ostrava he was sixth, a year later at the 12th U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz fifth over 400 meters and bronze medalist with the 4-by-400-meter relay. At the U20 European Championships in Novi Sad in 2009 , he improved by one rank. At the 2010 European Team Championship in Bergen , his first international men's championship, Zender won the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay as third place. In 2011 he started at the U23 European Championships and came in fifth place with the relay. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 he was third with the German 4 x 400 meter relay, but was only used in the preliminary run. Eric Krüger took his place in the final .

Nationally, Zender was B-Youth Champion 2007, Youth Indoor Champion 2008 and Vice Open Air Champion over 200 meters. In 2009 he was junior champion over 400 meters, in 2009 and 2011 vice junior champion. He was first used in the men in 2009 and was fifth in the German championships. In 2012, he finished fourth in Wattenscheid . With fourth place, Zender qualified for the 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . However, since he tore a muscle bundle, he was unable to take part in the games and was replaced by the fifth-placed winner of the German Championships, Benjamin Jonas .

On June 21, 2008, Zender ran his personal best over the 400 meters in Mannheim with 46.18 seconds .
