Jana Sussmann (born October 12, 1990 in Hamburg ) is a German athlete who specializes in obstacle , cross and road runs .

career path

Sussmann has completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk and is studying media and information at the HAW Hamburg .

Athletic career

Sussmann came to athletics at the age of eight, after trying out some sports such as gymnastics and judo with her twin sister , and has only been involved in running disciplines since she was twelve years old.

She was successful as a middle-distance runner and in the youth and junior division, especially in the 1,500-meter run . At the Junior World Championships in Athletics in 2008 in Bydgoszcz, she finished seventh over this distance. At the German Indoor Athletics Championships in Leipzig in 2009 , she was also seventh and outdoors at the German Athletics Championships in Ulm eighth.

Since 2010 Sussmann has concentrated on the obstacle course. At the German Athletics Championships in Braunschweig , she finished second behind Susi Lutz . The following year she won the silver medal at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava . A week later she became German champion in the obstacle course in Kassel.

At the German Athletics Championships 2014 in Ulm , Sussmann was third with 9: 41.70 min over the 3000 meter obstacle. At the European Athletics Championships in the same year, Sussmann fell on the water ditch in the run-up and missed the final.

At the German Cross Country Championships 2016 in Herten , Sussmann finished third behind Maya Rehberg and Caterina Granz with 21:45 . At the subsequent German Athletics Championships in Kassel, Sussmann came fourth in the obstacle course. At the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 , Sussmann just missed the obstacle final with 9: 49.04 min.

At the road running championships in Hamburg in 2016, Sussmann took third place with 34:20 minutes (net). With the team she became German champion together with Agata Strausa and Mona Stockhecke with a total time of 1:44:11 h.

In 2017 Sussmann won the team competition together with Sabrina Mockenhaupt and Tabea Themann at the German Cross Country Championships in Löningen . In Erfurt she became German runner-up in the 3000 meter obstacle course.

Club affiliations

Sussmann started for the LG Nordheide until December 31, 2011, and for the Haspa Marathon Hamburg eV running team from January 1, 2012. She trains with Beate Conrad.
