Caterina Granz (born March 14, 1994 in Berlin ) is a German athlete who specializes in medium and long-distance runs up to 10 km road running and also does cross-country runs . Her favorite discipline is the 1,500 meter run .

career path

Born and raised in Berlin , Granz attended the Victor Gollancz School in Reinickendorf . She graduated from high school in 2012 at the Evangelical School in Frohnau. Granz is studying psychology for a Bachelor's degree at the Free University of Berlin .

Athletic career

Caterina Granz started playing tennis at the age of four . Her coaches found that she barely showed any signs of tiredness in the third set. Her ability to endure was also noticeable at school: at the age of 14 she started a cross-country competition between Berlin schools over 4 km, made it to the finals and won. It was here that an athletics trainer discovered Granz, who guided her to LG North Berlin . A little later, her strength on the 800 meters became apparent . With her first running successes, tennis lost priority.

In 2010 Granz became German U18 champion over the 800 meters, in 2011 she became German U18 runner-up in the 1500 meter run. In 2012 she took 3rd place over 1500 meters at the German Youth Indoor Championships, was German U20 champion , and internationally she came 16th at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona . At the German Junior Championships (U23) she won bronze over 800 meters. In Budapest , Granz was runner-up in cross-country skiing with the U20 team at the end of the year .

In 2013 Granz came 4th on the 1500 meters at the German Youth Indoor Championships and was German U20 champion . Internationally she reached 12th place at the Junior European Championships (U20) in Rieti ( Italy ) . At the end of the year Granz won bronze with the U20 team at the European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade .

In 2014 she reached 6th place in the adult class at the German Indoor Championships and 10th place at the German Championships over 1500 meters .

In 2015, Granz was unable to compete because she had an operation on her heel and was unable to walk for nine months.

In 2016 she reported back over 1500 meters with a 5th place at the German Indoor Championships . In Herten , Granz came fourth with the team at the German Cross -Country Championships, which meant the German U23 Cross-Country Championships with the team and the U23 Cross-Country Runner-up in the individual ranking. Over 1500 meters she became German U23 champion . At the German Championships , Granz achieved 4th place over 1500 meters and 7th place with the 3 x 800 meter relay . Internationally she was in Chia ( Sardinia ) at the end of the year with the U23 team cross-country runner-up European champion , where she reached 6th place in the individual ranking.

In 2017, Granz won bronze with the team at the German Cross Country Championships and thus her first medal in the adult class. In the individual ranking she came in 5th place. At the German Indoor Championships , Granz reached the finals over 3000 meters, at the German University Championships over 800 m and at the German Championships over 1500 meters as well as with the 3 x 800 meter relay. At the end of the year she took part in Šamorín ( Slovakia ) again in the European Cross Country Championships , where she came in 6th place with the team.

In 2018, Granz won two more bronze medals at the German Indoor Championships ; over 3000 meters and with the 3 x 800 meter relay. In spring she became German cross-country champion with the team and won bronze in the individual over 5.2 km. At the World University Championships (WUC) in St. Gallen on April 7th, Granz became the student world champion in cross-country skiing and took silver with the team. At the German Championships she came fourth in the 1,500 meter run and 7th place with the 4 x 400 meter relay and also achieved bronze in the open air with the 3 x 800 meter relay .

In 2019 she won the Summer Universiade in Naples in 4: 09.14 min over 1500 meters.

At the German Indoor Championships 2020 , she won the silver medal in the 1500 m and 3000 m on two consecutive days, behind Hanna Klein .
