Winners podium Sydney 2000

The podium , even podium or occasionally short panel called, is a three-level podium to conduct a presentation ceremony of the first three finishers in a sporting competition . The winners ( gold medal winners ) are on the highest, middle level and the second and third placed on the lower levels. As a rule, the runner-up is on the left-hand step (as seen by the observer). Often the two low steps are built the same height.

The size of the podium can be adjusted for teams.

The first use of the podium can be documented for 1930 in Canada, as well as for the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and for the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles .
