Layes Abdullayeva (birth name: Abelav Layes Tsige ; born May 29, 1991 in Addis Ababa ) is a former Azerbaijani middle-distance , long-distance and obstacle runner of Ethiopian origin.

Life

Starting for her new home since February 2009, she won silver in the Junior European Championships in the 1500 meter and 3000 meter obstacle course in the same year and came 13th in the Delhi half marathon .

In 2010 she became national champion over 1500 meters indoors and over 800 meters outdoors. In April she won the Tarsus half marathon in 1:13:06 h. Over 3000 meters she was seventh at the World Indoor Championships in Doha and won bronze at the Junior World Championships in Moncton . A week after the Junior World Championships, she started at the European Championships in Barcelona over 3000 meters obstacle. Although her jumping technique was miserable compared to her competitors, she finished sixth and improved her national record by more than 20 seconds.

In 2011 she was first fourth at the European Indoor Championships over 3000 meters, but was subsequently awarded the bronze medal after Olesja Syrewa was suspended. At the U23 European Championships , she won gold in both 5000 and 10,000 meters. In 2012 she took part in the Olympic Games in London .
