Anna Katharina Schmid

Anna Katharina Schmid (born December 2, 1989 ) is a Swiss pole vaulter . In 2007 she won the bronze medal at the Junior European Championships in Hengelo and qualified for the World Championships in Osaka . In the same year she was voted Swiss athletics newcomer of the year and Swiss athletics youngster of the year .

The following year she struggled with health problems. At the end of October 2008, at the age of just 19, she announced her retirement from top-class sport with the words: "Athletics is no longer part of my future path". In June 2010 she made her comeback at the Swiss Meeting in Geneva , and at the European Team Championship (Second League) in Belgrade in the same month she qualified for the European Championships , where she qualified for the final. At the U23 European Championships in 2011 , she narrowly missed the medals in fourth place, a few days later she made the limit for the 2011 World Championships .

Before Schmid switched to athletics in the summer of 2004 , she was active in artistic gymnastics. Schmid studies medicine and lives in the former Konolfingen district . She started for LV Thun before retiring and for ST Bern after her comeback .
