Karl Ludwig Gayde (born October 31, 1844 in Heilbronn , Württemberg ; † October 6, 1928 in Bad Kissingen , Lower Franconia ) was a German master painter and tüncher , and from 1919 an honorary citizen of Bad Kissingen.

Life

His parents Jakob Gayde (also: Gaide ) and Katharina Finkenbein , from Perouse in the Oberamt Leonberg , had their son baptized as a Protestant on November 10, 1844 in Heilbronn. The family, who also called themselves (French) Gaidou , should have belonged to the Waldensian religious community that was expelled from Piedmont in 1699 and settled in Württemberg.

In 1865, the master craftsman Gayde from Württemberg came to the rapidly up-and-coming Lower Franconian spa town of Kissingen (officially “Bad Kissingen” only from 1883), where he was hoping for larger orders due to the extremely lively construction activity. As early as 1867 he received citizenship there . Shortly afterwards he married the wealthy Karoline Röder, with whom he had five daughters and two sons. One of the sons was the Bad Kissingen painter Franz Karl Gayde (1872–1948).

Gayde was an avowed Lutheran , for 40 years he was a member of the church council and the administrative board of the Protestant children's sanatorium. He was also involved in political community life. As early as 1872, five years after receiving his citizenship, he became a substitute for the community council , and from 1883 to 1908 a regular member and board of directors. He was heavily involved in the local school system.

In recognition of his services to the city, the city of Bad Kissingen granted him honorary citizenship in 1919. Gayde is buried in the family grave in the chapel cemetery in Bad Kissingen.
