Kim Amb (born July 31, 1990 in Solna ) is a Swedish athlete who specializes in throwing a javelin .

Athletic career

Kim Amb first appeared in an international javelin throwing competition in 2007. In 2008 he qualified for the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz. Although he threw his personal best, the 67.59 m were not enough for a place in the final. A month later he threw the spear another six feet. In June 2010 he had his first throw over the 70-meter mark. By August he improved his personal best up to 77.81 m. Also in August he became Swedish runner-up. In summer 2011 he took part in the U23 European Championships in Ostrava. He threw the javelin in the final to 79.48 m and thus to a new best distance. With the distance he took fourth place overall. In August he succeeded in the first throw over 80 m at the Swedish championships, with which he became the first Swedish champion among adults.

In 2012 Amb took part in the European Championships in Helsinki. After an 80-meter throw, he moved into the final, where he stayed just under 80 m and was seventh overall. He then qualified for the Summer Olympics in London. He stayed in the qualification, compared to his season best of 81.51 m from July, about 2.5 meters behind and was eliminated in 18th place. In 2013 he took part in a large number of competitions on the European continent, with the culmination of the World Championships in Moscow. He managed to qualify for the final, in which he finished tenth of a total of 12 places. A good week later, he set a new personal best of 83.21 m in Stockholm, where he is training in the north of the city. In Zagreb, two weeks later, he added more than a meter. In the next few years it initially exceeded this width of 84.61 m. For example, he did not succeed in qualifying at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich. In 2015 he qualified for the final with 81.63 m in the qualification of the World Championships in Beijing. In the final, he did not come close to his qualification distance and came in eleventh from the penultimate place.

In 2016, Amb first competed at the European Championships in Amsterdam. There he finished seventh with 79.36 m in the final. He then took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the second time . He threw just over 80 meters in qualification and was eliminated. Overall, he finished 17th. In the two following seasons he took part in significantly fewer competitions compared to previous years. One of the competitions was the 2017 Diamond League meeting in Doha. In 2019 he made another comeback among the world's best. After he increased his best performance to 86.04 m at the Swedish championships in September, he also made it into the finals at the world championships a month later . After more than 84 meters from the qualification, he came in the final just over 80 meters and was eighth. In 2020, he improved to 86.49 m in a competition in Zweibrücken in July, with which he emerged as the winner of the meeting.

In total, Amb has been the Swedish javelin thrower seven times in the course of his career. One of his sporting goals is to beat the Swedish record of 89.10 m, which Patrik Bodén set in 1990.
