Jakub Krzewina (born October 10, 1989 in Kruszwica ) is a Polish sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run and is particularly successful with the Polish 4-by-400-meter relay.

Athletic career

Jakub Krzewina gained his first international experience in 2007 when he was disqualified in the final of the European Junior Championships in Hengelo with the Polish 4 x 400 meter relay. The following year he retired from the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz in the 400-meter run with 47.97 s in the first round and finished fifth with the Polish relay team in 3: 08.65 min. In 2009 he won the U23 European Championships with the relay in 3: 03.74 minutes ahead of the teams from Italy and France. At the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2011 in Paris , he finished fourth in the relay in 3: 09.31 min and won the silver medal behind the United Kingdom in 3: 03.62 min at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava , before joining the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, eliminated with 3: 01.84 min. In 2012 he reached sixth place with the relay at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul in 3: 11.86 min.

In 2014 he came fourth in the Polish relay at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot in 3: 04.39 minutes. During the open-air season he qualified for the first time for the European Championships in Zurich , where he made it straight to the finals and finished fourth in 45.52 seconds. In addition, together with Rafał Omelko , Kacper Kozłowski and Łukasz Krawczuk , he won the silver medal behind the United Kingdom in 2: 59.85 minutes after the Russian team had been disqualified for a doping offense. He then came second in the Continental Cup in Marrakech with the European 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 00.10 min. The following year he won the silver medal behind the Belgian team at the European Indoor Championships in Prague with Karol Zalewski , Rafał Omelko and Łukasz Krawczuk with a new indoor record. The relay qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where 3: 00.72 minutes was not enough for a final . He then took part with the relay at the Military World Games in Mungyeon , South Korea , where he finished fourth in 3: 04.25 min. In 2016, at the European Championships in Amsterdam , he reached the semi-finals in the individual competition over 400 meters, in which he was eliminated with 46.50 seconds and won again with the relay consisting of Krawczuk, Kozłowski, Krzewina and Omelko in 3: 01.18 minutes the silver medal, this time behind Belgium. The Polish relay team qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished seventh with 3: 00.50 minutes in the final .

In 2018 he reached the semi-finals at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham over 400 meters and was eliminated there with 46.69 seconds. In addition, he won with the Polish relay from Zalewski, Omelko, Krawczuk and Krzewina completely surprisingly with a new indoor world record of 3: 01.77 minutes ahead of the favored teams from the United States and Belgium. The following year he was eliminated from the World Military Games in Wuhan with 47.95 s in the first round over 400 meters and won the silver medal behind the Bahraini team in 3: 06.36 min.

In 2014 Krzewina became Polish champion in the 400-meter run outdoors and in 2018 indoors. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, he won in the years between 2013 and 2016 and 2019 outdoors and 2014 indoors.
