Tonje Angelsen (born January 17, 1990 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian athlete who specializes in the high jump .

Angelsen began her sporting career as a heptathlete and finished eighth in the third class 2nd league in the 2006 European Athletics Cup with 5074 points . Then she concentrated on her strongest individual discipline, the high jump. In the same year she took part in the Junior World Championships in Beijing , but could not qualify for the final there.

In the years that followed, Angelsen initially failed to survive the qualifying rounds at major international events such as the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona or the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu. In May 2012, she increased her personal best to 1.95 m and thus qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in London . A month later she surprisingly won the silver medal behind the Spaniard Ruth Beitia at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki with a further increase to 1.97 m . However, she also benefited from the absence of several strong competitors such as Anna Tschitscherowa from Russia or Tia Hellebaut from Belgium.
