Sondre Nordstad Moen (born January 12, 1991 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian long-distance runner and participant in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Athletic career

Moen took 28th place in the junior race at the World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh in 2008 and was fourteenth in the 5000 meter run at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz . In the same year he won the silver medal in the junior race at the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels . In 2009 he finished 74th at the World Cross Country Championships in Amman and fourth at the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin . The following year he reached the 31st place at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz and fifth place at the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira .

Since 2010 Moen has also competed in the adult division. At the European Championships in Barcelona he was fourteenth in the 10,000 meter run , while he could not qualify for the final over 5000 m. At the Cross Country World Championships 2011 in Punta Umbría, he finished 36th. He won over 10,000 m at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava and became Norwegian champion in the 5000 meter run. He ended the season by winning the bronze medal in the U23 age group at the European Cross Country Championships in Velenje .

In 2016 Moen finished 19th at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2:14:17 h.

In 2017 he set a national record at the Hanover Marathon with 2:10:07 h and at the Fukuoka Marathon with a winning time of 2:05:48 h he was the first European ever to run a marathon time under 2:06 h.

In 2020 Moen ran the 25,000 meters in 1:12: 46.49 hours at the Bislett Games, which were held as Impossible Games due to the Covid 19 pandemic , replacing Stéphane Franke with his 1: 13: 57.6 hours from 1999 as the European record holder .
