Antonella Palmisano (born August 6, 1991 in Mottola ) is an Italian walker . At the 2017 World Championships in London, she won the bronze medal over the 20 km distance.

Athletic career

Antonella Palmisano has competed in international walking competitions since 2007. At the U18 World Championships in Ostrava, she finished fifth over 5 km. A year later she was ninth over double the distance at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. A year later she won the silver medal at the U20 European Championships in Novi Sad in a time of 46: 59.47 minutes. Before that, in June, she set her best time of 22: 49.59 minutes over this distance. Also in 2009 she began to take part in the first competitions over the 20 km distance.

In 2010 she finished fourth at the U20 World Championships in Moncton, Canada, improving her time by around 50 seconds compared to the European Championships a year earlier. In May she won the junior race of the Walker World Cup in Chihuahua . In 2011 Palmisano won silver over 20 km at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn.

In 2013 she won bronze at the U23 European Championships in Tampere, the bronze medal in a new best time of 1:30:59 h. This improved her time from the last European championships by more than 5 minutes. At the World Championships in Moscow, her first international adult championship, she finished 13th and improved her best time by a few seconds.

In 2014 she improved by more than 2 minutes to 1:28:43 h at the European Championships in Zurich, with which she finished 7th. In 2015 she was fifth at the World Championships in Beijing, another year later fourth at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In April 2017, Palmisano set a new Italian record in the 10 km lane at the national championships in 41: 57.29 minutes. Later in August, she celebrated her greatest sporting success to date by winning the bronze medal in a personal best of 1:26:36 h at the World Championships in London. She also won bronze at the European Championships a year later in Berlin. At the 2019 World Championships in Doha, she finished 13th in races under extreme conditions.

In addition to her international successes, Palmisano has so far won a total of ten national championship titles in indoor and outdoor locations.
