Fatih Avan (born January 1, 1989 in Andırın ) is a Turkish athlete who specializes in throwing the javelin . He starts for the athletics department of Fenerbahçe SK .

Career

Avan was third in the 2009 European Winter Throwing Cup in Los Realejos and won the Mediterranean Games in Pescara , but missed the finals at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin .

His international breakthrough came in 2011. He won the U23 Winter Throwing European Cup in Sofia. At the U23 European Athletics Championships in Ostrava , he finished second behind the German Till Wöschler , and won the gold medal at the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen . After he had reached fifth place at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu , he increased the Turkish spear throwing record at the Memorial Van Damme to 84.79 m. It was already the fourth national record for him this season.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London and at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, he was unable to qualify for the final.
