Lee McRae (born January 23, 1966 in Pembroke , North Carolina ) is a former American sprinter who specialized in the 100-meter run .
He had the most successful season of his career in 1987. In the 60-meter run at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Indianapolis , he first finished second in 6.50 s behind Ben Johnson , who set a world record with 6.41 s. When Johnson was later convicted of doping , the title and the world record fell to McRae.
McRae won the Universiade in Zagreb with a personal best of 10.07 seconds in the 100 meter run . A few weeks later, he also prevailed over the same distance at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis, where he also won the gold medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay .
After all, he celebrated the greatest success of his career with winning the title in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the World Athletics Championships in 1987 in Rome . The US squadron in the line-up Lee McRae, Lee McNeill , Harvey Glance and Carl Lewis relegated the teams of the Soviet Union and Jamaica to their places in 37.90 s. McRae finished sixth in the 100-meter run.
