Andrés Simón

Andrés Simón Goméz (born September 15, 1961 in Guantánamo ) is a former Cuban sprinter .

At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1989 in Budapest , he won the title in the 60-meter run . In a personal best of 6.52 s he relegated John Myles-Mills (6.59 s) and Pierfrancesco Pavoni (6.61 s) to their places. Simón Goméz was fifth in 1991 and seventh in 1993 when he also participated in World Indoor Championships.

His most significant achievement was winning the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . He led the Cuban relay as a starting runner together with Joel Lamela , Joel Isasi and Jorge Aguilera in 38.00 s in third place behind the teams of the United States (37.40 s) and Jamaica (37.98 s). The US relay set a world record in this race. Simón Goméz entered the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta again with the relay and finished sixth there.

Andrés Simón Goméz is 1.60 m tall and had a competition weight of 67 kg.
