Hassan Saaid (born March 4, 1992 ) is a sprinter from the Maldives .

Athletic career

Hassan Saaid gained his first international experience at the 2010 South Asian Games in Dhaka , where he won the bronze medal behind the teams from India and Sri Lanka in the Maldivian 4 x 100 meter relay in 41.39 seconds. He then took part in the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi , but retired there over 200 and 400 meters with 22.77 s and 50.08 s in the first round. In October he took part in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi over both distances , but also retired there with 22.07 s and 48.56 s in the lead. Shortly thereafter, the end came in the first round of the 200-meter run at the Asian Games in Guangzhou with 22.16 seconds. Two years later he took part in the Asian Championships in Pune over 200 meters and was eliminated there with 21.37 s in the preliminary round. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , he went over 100 and 200 meters at the start and was eliminated in both competitions with 10.79 s and 21.38 s in the first round, as with the later in Incheon held Asian Games with 10, 59 s and 21.62 s.

In 2015 he reached the semi-finals at the Asian Championships in Wuhan over 100 and 200 meters, in which he was eliminated with 10.50 s and 21.19 s respectively. Thanks to a wildcard, he was allowed to start at the World Championships in Beijing , where he retired in the preliminary round in the 100-meter run with a new national record of 10.42 seconds . The following year he won the silver medal over 100 meters behind Himasha Eashan from Sri Lanka at the South Asian Games in Guwahati in 10.41 seconds and also won silver over 200 meters in 21.15 seconds behind Vinoj De Silva from Sri Lanka. He then reached the final at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha in the 60-meter run , where he finished fifth in 6.84 s. In August he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was eliminated there over 100 meters with 10.47 s in the lead . In 2017, at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku , he finished fourth over 100 meters in 10.42 seconds and came sixth over 200 meters in 21.23 seconds. He then finished fourth at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 10.37 s over 100 meters and thus received a bye for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated with 10.45 s in the first round .

In 2018 he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he retired over 100 meters with 10.67 s in the first round and then did not start over 200 meters. The following year he reached the Asian Championships in Doha over 100 meters to the semi-finals and was eliminated there with 10.56 s in the semi-finals, while he could not qualify for the final with the relay with 41.80 s. At the beginning of December, he won the South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 10.49 seconds , winning the Maldives' first ever gold medal at this event. The next day he won the bronze medal over 200 meters in 21.22 seconds behind Pakistani Uzair Rehman and Vinoj De Silva from Sri Lanka. He also came in fifth place with the relay in 49.87 s.

In 2018 and 2019 Saaid was Maldivian champion in the 100-meter run as well as in 2018 over 200 meters and 2019 in the 400-meter run.
