Himasha Eashan Waththakankanamge (born May 7, 1995 in Kalutara ) is a Sri Lankan athlete who specializes in sprinting .

Athletic career

Himasha Eashan gained his first international experience at the Junior Asian Championships in Colombo in 2012 , where he finished fifth in the 100-meter run and was eliminated in the semi-finals over 200 meters. He was then tested for the banned substance methylhexamine and then banned for one year until November 2013. After the suspension he won gold over 200 meters and the bronze medal over 100 meters at the South Asian Junior Championships in Ranchi . In 2014 he won the silver medal over 100 meters at the Junior Asian Championships in Taipei and was sixth in the 200 meters and fourth in the Sri Lankan 4 x 100 meter relay. He then took part in the Junior World Championships in Eugene , but retired there in the first round in both individual disciplines.

In 2015 he took part in the Asian Championships in Wuhan over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 10.52 seconds in the semi-finals. He also finished fourth with the relay in 39.38 s. In 2016 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland over 60 meters and was eliminated there in the seventh heat. He then won the gold medals over 100 meters and with the relay at the South Asian Games in Guwahati . In 2017 he again took part in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar and was eliminated in the semi-finals over 100 meters in 10.53 s and again finished fourth in the relay. At the beginning of September he took part in the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat and was eliminated there for 6.89 s in the semi-finals over 60 meters.

In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and finished sixth with the Sri Lankan relay with a new national record of 39.08 s. The following year he reached the semi-finals at the Asian Athletics Championships in Doha , in which he was eliminated with 10.51 s. At the beginning of December he won the silver medal over 100 meters behind Hassan Saaid of the Maldives at the South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 10.50 seconds and won the relay in 39.14 seconds. Before that, he made it to the semi-finals at the Military World Games in Wuhan over 100 meters, where he was eliminated with 10.59 seconds. He also finished sixth with the relay in 40.06 s.

In 2015 Eashan became Sri Lankan champion over 100 and 200 meters and in 2016, 2018 and 2019 over 100 meters.
