Henricho Bruintjies (born July 16, 1993 in Paarl ) is a South African sprinter .
Athletic career
Henricho Bruintjies gained his first experience in international championships at the 2013 Student World Games in Kazan , Russia , in which the South African 4 x 100 meter relay took seventh place in the final with 45.82 seconds. In 2014 Bruintjies took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Scotland , and finished fourth in the final with the South African relay. Shortly afterwards he took part in the African Championships in Marrakech over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 10.44 s in the semifinals. In 2015, in July 2015, he improved the South African national record to 9.97 s and qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated in the semi-finals with 10.21 s. In addition, he had to end the preliminary run with the South African 4 x 100 meter relay prematurely.
In 2016 he qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated over 100 meters in the lead with 10.33 seconds. Two years later, Henricho Bruintjies won the silver medal over 100 meters in 10.17 s at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast behind his compatriot Akani Simbine . With the South African 4 x 100 meter relay, he also won the silver medal behind the team from England with a new national record of 38.24 seconds. He then won the African Championships in Asaba with a new championship record of 38.25 s with the South African relay. In 2019 he took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time and reached the semi-finals over 100 meters, in which he was eliminated with 10.43 seconds. He also won the bronze medal behind the teams from Ghana and Nigeria with the relay in 38.80 seconds.
In 2016 Bruintjies became the South African champion in the 100-meter run.
