Anaso Jobodwana (born July 30, 1992 in Aberdeen , Eastern Cape) is a South African athlete who specializes in the sprint disciplines.
Athletic career
Anaso Jobodwana gained his first international experience at the African Championships in Porto-Novo , where he reached the semi-finals over 200 meters, but did not compete there. He then took part in the Olympic Games in London and improved his personal best to 20.27 seconds and moved into the final , in which he was eighth. In 2013 he won the gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters at the Summer Universiade in Kazan . He also took seventh place in the South African 4 x 100 meter relay in the final. This was followed by participation in the World Championships in Moscow , where he reached the semifinals over 100 meters and finished sixth over 200 meters.
Two years later he took part again in the World Championships in Beijing and won the bronze medal there with a new national record of 19.87 seconds in the final over 200 meters. In addition, he retired with the South African relay in the first round and was disqualified over 100 meters in the preliminary run . At the end of the season he took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville , where he reached the semi-finals over 100 meters.
In 2016 he qualified again over 200 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was eliminated there in the first round with 20.53 seconds. In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and was disqualified there in the semi-finals over 200 meters. He also won the silver medal behind the team from England with the South African 4 x 100 meter relay with a new national record of 38.24 seconds. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , he was eliminated from the preliminary round with the 4 x 100 meter relay in 38.66 s and came out of the 4 x 200 meter relay in the preliminary round. In August he took part again in the Africa Games in Rabat and won the bronze medal there in 20.56 s behind the Zambian Sydney Siame and Divine Oduduru from Nigeria. Also with the 4 x 100 meter relay he won the bronze medal in 38.80 seconds behind the teams from Ghana and Nigeria. Then he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Doha over 200 meters , in which he was eliminated with 20.34 s.
In 2015 Jobodwana became the South African champion in the 200-meter run. He is a student at Jackson State University in Jackson .
