Kemar Hyman (born October 11, 1989 in George Town ) is a sprinter from the Cayman Islands .

Athletic career

Kemar Hyman gained his first experience in international championships at the CARIFTA Games 2005 in Bacolet , where he finished seventh over 100 meters and fourth over 200 meters in the U17 classification. He was then part of the 4 x 100 meter relay of the Cayman Islands for the Pan American Junior Championships in Windsor , where they finished sixth in the final. At the youth world championships in Marrakech he was disqualified in the semifinals over 100 meters and was also eliminated over 200 meters in the semifinals. In 2006, at the CARIFTA Games in Les Abymes , he finished sixth in the U20 age group over 100 meters and fifth in the relay. He reached the semi-finals over 200 meters, but did not play there. At the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships in Port of Spain , he was eliminated in the preliminary round over 100 meters, finished fourth over 200 meters and won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay. In August he took part in the Junior World Championships in Beijing , where he reached the semifinals over 100 and 200 meters. In addition, he retires with the national relay in the preliminary round.

In 2007 Hyman won the silver medal in the 200-meter run at the CARIFTA Games in Providenciales and took sixth place in the U20 classification over 100 meters and with the relay. At the Pan American Junior Championships in São Paulo , he finished fifth over 200 meters and was eliminated in the shorter competition in the semifinals. At the NACAC Championships in San Salvador , he was eliminated over 100 meters in the preliminary run and took fourth place with the 4 x 100 meter relay. In 2008 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where he finished eighth in the final and was eliminated over 200 meters in the first round. In 2009 he again took part in the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Havana , where he was eliminated in the first round over 100 and 200 meters and finished fifth in the final with the relay. He also took part in the World Championships in Berlin for the first time , but was eliminated there with 10.59 s in the first round .

Two years later, Hyman took part again in the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mayagüez and was disqualified there in the final over 100 meters. In 2012 he broke the 10-second mark for the first time and qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where he made it to the semifinals , but did not take part there. In 2013 he qualified again for the World Championships in Moscow , where he was disqualified in advance due to a false start. In 2014 he took part in the World Relays in the Bahamas , but retired there with the 4 x 100 meter relay and the 4 x 200 meter relay in the first round. In the summer he took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Scotland , where he was eliminated over 100 meters with 10.31 s in the semifinals and eliminated with the Cayman relay in the preliminary run. In 2015 he took fifth place over 100 meters at the NACAC Championships in San José (Costa Rica) and again took part in the World Championships in Beijing, where he was eliminated again in the prerun over 100 meters with 10.32 seconds.

In 2016, Hyman took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland and reached the semi-finals over 60 meters there. He also qualified again for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he ran 10.34 s over 100 meters in advance and was eliminated. Two years later he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , but was disqualified there in the preliminary round over 60 meters. In April 2018, he finished fifth over 100 meters in 10.21 s at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast .
