Alexander Andreas Joseph von Nagy (born October 1717 in Hungary ; † June 22, 1808 in Steinau (Wohlau district)) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

His father was Sandor Nagy († 1760), who had stood as a lieutenant colonel in Hussar Regiment No. 3 .

Military career

Nagy came into imperial service as a volunteer in 1737. In 1737/39 he fought in the campaign against the Turks . In 1741, on the recommendation of General Winterfeldt, he and his brothers changed into Prussian services . There he became a non-commissioned officer in the "Hoditz" hussar regiment on May 6, 1741 . His brothers soon left Prussia. During the First Silesian War he took part in the battles at Grottkau (wounded), Neustatt and Troppau and the siege of Cosel. In the Second Silesian War he was wounded in a battle near Habelschwerdt , he also fought near Budin, Brunzlau, and in the battle of Hohenfriedberg . At that time he was promoted to cornet on April 1, 1745 .

On January 27, 1751 Nagy was second lieutenant , and on April 23, 1755 First Lieutenant . In the Seven Years' War he took part in the sieges of Prague and Dresden and fought in the battles of Prague , Kolin , Roßbach , Leuthen and in the battles near Neumarkt and Annaberg. At that time, on March 13, 1758, Nagy became staff cavalry officer in the "von Szekely" hussar regiment .

On August 18, 1763 he was promoted to Rittmeister and on December 13, 1765 he became a major . As such, Nagy took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 24, 1787 he became lieutenant colonel, on May 23, 1789 colonel, and on September 22, 1789 he received the order Pour le Mérite at a revue . On April 29, 1791, Nagy celebrated his 50th anniversary with the service, he received congratulations from the king and 100 bottles of Hungarian wine. On June 13, 1792 he was appointed commander of the Hussar Regiment "von Czettritz". In addition, on January 1, 1794, he was promoted to major general . On May 29, 1794 he still took part in the campaign in Poland , but on August 6, 1794 he received his resignation with the character of lieutenant general with a pension of 1200 thalers.

On December 31, 1796, the king gave him the house in Steinau, where he lived and where he died on June 22, 1808.

Nagy married Barbara Eleonore von Pflugradt in 1748 (June 1731 - March 11, 1806). The couple had several children:
