Brendon Rodney (born April 9, 1992 in Etobicoke ) is a Canadian athlete who specializes in sprinting .

Athletic career

Rodney began athletics training at the age of 17. In 2013 he finished fourth in the 200-meter run at the Canadian Championships and was then nominated for the Universiade in Kazan . There he was fifth over 200 meters and won the silver medal with the Canadian 4 x 400 meter relay . In 2014 he became Canadian champion in the 200-meter run and took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow .

In 2015 Rodney competed at the Pan American Games in Toronto . Over 200 meters he narrowly missed the finals in ninth place in the semi-finals. With the Canadian 4 x 100 meter relay , he achieved the fastest time in the final. However, the team was subsequently disqualified for leaving the track and lost the gold medal. Rodney had better luck a month later at the World Championships in Beijing . There he took fourth place with the Canadian season around Aaron Brown , Andre De Grasse and Justyn Warner . However, the Canadians advanced to the bronze rank after the runner-up US relay was disqualified due to a substitutional error.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Akeem Haynes , Aaron Brown and Andre De Grasse. He also competed in the 200-meter run, but was eliminated there in the preliminary run.

Brendon Rodney is studying exercise science at Long Island University in Brooklyn .
