Bocognano with the Church Sainte-Lucie

Bocognano ( Corsican Bucugnà ) is a municipality on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica . It belongs to the Corse-du-Sud department , the Ajaccio arrondissement and the Gravona-Prunelli canton . The residents call themselves Bocognanais .

Geography and infrastructure

The settlement area is about 650 to 700 meters above sea level and consists of the villages of Celli, Busso, Poggiola, Moraschi, Corsacci, Pietrajolo, Quercioli, la Gare (in German the train station ), Colleta, Villanova and Erbajolo. Bocognano is on the Route nationale 193 affected and the train company Chemins de Fer de la Corse with a stop at the line Ponte-Leccia - Ajaccio served. The railway line and a main road leading through the in Haute-Corse nearby mountain pass Col de Vizzano to Vivario . The neighboring communities are Pastricciola in the northwest, Vivario in the northeast, Ghisoni in the east, Bastelica in the southeast and Tavera in the south and west.

Attractions

Cascade du voile de la mariée

The Cascade du voile de la mariée , German bridal veil waterfall , is the highest waterfall in Corsica. The waterfall can be hiked from the village or reached after 3.5 km via the D27 road. The water of the Trottu brook falls over a step of 150 m and forms a formation that resembles a white veil.

The Clue de la Richiusa can also be hiked from the village . The narrow canyon with its waterfall is a popular destination for canyoning enthusiasts.

The well-preserved historic station of Bocognano is a magnet for rail enthusiasts.

The Mulinu di l`orsu below the village on the Gravona is a water mill that was abandoned in 2008 and has since been restored and put back into operation.
