Ota ( Corsican Otta ) is a municipality with 528 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on the Mediterranean island of Corsica and is located near the west coast of Corsica north of the capital Ajaccio on a mountainside. The port of Porto (Corsican: Portu ), five kilometers to the west, also belongs to the municipality of Ota . The Gulf of Porto is one of the most beautiful areas in Corsica and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO .

history

Porto was a port in Roman times. The local castle was owned by Paolo de Leca in the 15th century. Later the Genoese were lords of the area. The robber Serafino, known as "Roi de la Balagne", came from Ota.
