Lac de Tolla

Tolla ( Corsican Todda ) is a municipality in France Corse-du-Sud in the region Corsica .

geography

Tolla is largely cut off from the surrounding area in the mountainous terrain above the Lac de Tolla reservoir, which is fed by the Prunelli and whose dam was built in the early 1960s. In the further course up the valley in a northerly direction you reach the Prunelli Gorge. From the Col de Mercujo you can see the Prunelli valley with the gorge and the reservoir.

Only 125 people live in the municipality (as of January 1, 2017) on 25.45 km². From the beginning of the 1960s, when almost 300 people were still registered in Tolla, to the beginning of the 1990s, the number of inhabitants decreased dramatically. Since then it has stabilized at a low level. Almost half of the residents registered in Tolla in the 1999 census were 60 years or older. Only 7% were under 30 years old.

The Catholic Church of St. Leonhard (Saint-Léonard) belongs to the diocese of Ajaccio .

economy

In addition to electricity production by the reservoir's hydropower plant, agriculture with fruit and wine growing is the traditional economic factor. The wines from Tolla are part of the AOC Coteaux d'Ajaccio .
