Chantel Ellen Malone (born December 2, 1991 in Puerto Rico ) is a long jumper from the British Virgin Islands who occasionally competes in other disciplines.

Athletic career

Chantel Malone gained her first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2005 in Bacolet , where she won bronze medals in the long and triple jump with 5.25 m and 11.09 m and took fourth place in the high jump with 1.60 m . In addition, she retired over 400 meters with 58.67 s in the first lap. At the games in Les Abymes the following year , she won silver in the long and triple jump and bronze in the 400-meter run in 55.70 seconds . With the 4 x 400 meter relay she finished fourth in 3: 51.71 minutes. She then won the silver medal in the long jump at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships (CAC) in Port of Spain with a width of 5.34 m. In the triple jump as well as with the 4-by-100-meter and 4-by-400-meter relay, she came fourth and was fifth over 400 meters in 56.74 s. In 2007 she won the CARIFTA Games in Providenciales with 12.29 m in the triple jump and won the long jump with 5.54 m silver while she came in fourth with the 4 x 100 meter relay. In the triple jump and with the 4 x 400 meter relay, she took part in the youth world championships in Ostrava , but was eliminated in both competitions in the qualification. The following year she reached the semi-finals at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz over 400 meters, in which she was eliminated with 54.98 s. In 2009 she was tenth at the CAC Championships in Havana with 5.85 m and finished fifth with the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 37.62 m. The following year she won the CAC Junior Championships in Santo Domingo in 53.10 s and won 6.10 m silver in the long jump, while she did not finish with the relay. At the Junior World Championships in Moncton she was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.17 m and finished eighth over 400 meters in 53.91 s.

In 2011 she was fourth at the CAC Championships in Mayagüez with 6.23 m and qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Daegu , where she was eliminated with 6.12 m in qualification. Two years later, she was fourth in the long jump at the CAC Championships in Morelia with 6.35 m and did not finish with the 4 x 100 meter relay. At the subsequent World Championships in Moscow that followed with 6.40 m in qualification. At the 2014 IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas , she finished 15th in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 45.06 seconds. She then took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time and was fourth there with a jump of 6.41 m. This was followed by victory with 6.46 m at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Xalapa . In 2015 she finished fifth with 6.62 m at the Pan American Games in Toronto and won the silver medal behind the American Quanesha Burks at the NACAC championships with a new national record of 6.69 m . So she qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 6.46 m in the qualification . Two years later she finished seventh at the World Championships in London with 6.57 m in the final .

In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she came in fifth with a width of 6.48 m. At the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla she won the silver medal behind Caterine Ibargüen from Colombia with 6.52 m and was fifth at the NACAC Championships in Toronto with 6.19 m.

In 2019 she increased the national record to 6.90 m in Athens on April 26 , before her greatest success to date, winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games 2019 in Lima with 6.68 m on August 6 .

Malone graduated from the University of Texas .
