Aiga Grabuste (born March 24, 1988 in Rēzekne , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian long jumper and former heptathlete .

Athletic career

In 2005 she finished 27th at the Youth World Championships in Marrakech with 4,376 points. In her junior career, Aiga Grabuste took part in the Junior World Championships in Beijing , where she was ninth with 5443 points. At the Junior European Championships in Hengelo in 2007 she won the gold medal with 5920 points and clearly beat her worst opponent, Eliška Klučinová , with almost 200 points . She also qualified for the World Championships in Osaka , where she finished 17th. In 2008 she took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing and was 19 there. In 2009 she won the gold medal at the U23 European Championships in Kaunas and set a new championship record with 6396 points. At the World Championships in Berlin this time she finished thirteenth.

In 2010 she took part in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships in Doha and was eighth there. In 2011 she finished tenth at the European Indoor Championships in Paris , as well as at the World Championships in Daegu in the summer. In 2012 she celebrated her greatest success by winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in Helsinki behind her compatriot Laura Ikauniece . At the Olympic Games in London , she could not finish the competition due to an injury .

Due to several injuries, she was unable to compete in 2013 and specialized in the long jump. In 2014 she finished fifth at the European Championships in Zurich . In 2015 she took part in the European Indoor Championships in Prague , where she took eighth place in the final. She also took part in the World Championships in Beijing, but retired there with 6.48 m in qualification . In 2016 she took part in the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she had to give up qualifying without a valid attempt.
