Lorraine Efe Ugen (born August 22, 1991 in London ) is a British long jumper who occasionally competes in sprint disciplines.
Athletic career
Lorraine Ugen gained her first international experience at the 2009 Junior European Championships in Novi Sad , where she was eliminated in qualifying with a width of 5.85 m, as well as at the Junior World Championships in Moncton the following year with 5.56 m. In 2011 she did not succeed in a valid attempt at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava . Two years later she made it to the final of the U23 European Championships in Tampere , but could no longer compete there due to an injury. In addition, she qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where she failed again a valid attempt.
Starting for England , she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time in 2014 , where she finished fifth with a jump of 6.39 m. The following year she again took part in the World Championships in Beijing , where she also finished fifth with 6.85 m in the final . In 2016 she won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with a new British indoor record of 6.93 m behind the Americans Brittney Reese and Ivana Španović from Serbia. At the European Championships in Amsterdam , she surprisingly retired from the qualification with 6.33 m. Nevertheless, she qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she reached eleventh place with 6.58 m in the final . In 2017 she improved her British record to 6.97 m at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade and thus secured the silver medal behind Serbian Španović. In August, she finished fifth at the home world championships in London with a width of 6.72 m in the final .
In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she finished fourth in the long jump with 6.69 m. Surprisingly, she became part of the English 4 x 100 meter relay which won the gold medal with a new national record of 42.46 seconds. In August, she finished ninth at the European Championships in Berlin with 6.45 m.
In 2017 and 2018 Ugen became British champion in the long jump outdoors and in 2017 also in the hall. Starting for Texas Christian University , she became NCAA champion in 2013 and NCAA indoor champion in 2014.
