Felix Franz (born May 6, 1993 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German athlete who specializes in the 400-meter hurdles .

career path

After graduating from the Friedrich-Abel-Gymnasium Vaihingen , he began studying process engineering at the University of Stuttgart in 2011 . According to his club, he has been part of the Bundeswehr's sports promotion group as a sports soldier since 2016 , but continues his training in the form of distance learning .

Athletic career

Franz started athletics at the age of four and specialized in hurdles from 2009. In 2010 he won the German U18 championships and took fourth place at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . At the Junior European Championships 2011 in Tallinn he finished eighth, at the Junior World Championships 2012 in Barcelona fifth.

At the end of May 2014, Franz undercut the 50-second mark for the first time at the Ludwig Jall Sportfest in Munich with 49.96 seconds, thereby also meeting the qualification standard for the European Championships in Zurich . At the German Championships in Ulm, he increased his personal best to 49.34 seconds and secured his first title in the active class ahead of the actual favorite, Varg Königsmark . At the European Championships he qualified for the finals with a new personal best of 48.96 seconds in the semifinals. There he finished fifth in 49.83 seconds.

In 2017, Franz became the European team champion in Lille, northern France , and took 7th place in the 400-meter hurdles .

Franz starts for the LG Neckar-Enz and is trained by Thomas Riegraf and national trainer Marlon Odom.
