Anna Bongiorni (born September 15, 1993 in Pisa ) is an Italian athlete who specializes in 100 and 200 meter runs and is particularly successful with the 4 x 100 meter relay .

Athletic career

Anna Bongiorni gained her first international experience at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Tampere 2009. There she took fifth place over 200 meters and seventh place with the Italian relay. At the youth world championships in Brixen she reached the semi-finals over 100 meters and was eliminated from the sprint relay in the preliminary round. In 2010 she won the bronze medal in a mixed relay at the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and finished seventh over 200 meters. At the U20 European Championships in Tallinn in 2011, she won the silver medal with the Italian relay and was eliminated in the 200-meter run in the preliminary round. In 2012 she participated with the relay at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she was eliminated in the first round.

In 2015 she dropped out of both sprints in the preliminary round of the U23 European Championships in Tallinn and won the silver medal with the Italian relay. At the World Championships in Beijing , she was eliminated with the Italian relay in the preliminary round . In 2017 she reached the semi-finals over 60 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade . At the relay world championships in the Bahamas , the relay was disqualified in the preliminary round. At the Universiade in Taipei she won the bronze medal over 200 meters in 23.47 s, finished sixth over 100 meters and was eliminated with the Italian team in the final. In 2018 she made it to the semi-finals of the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she was eliminated over 60 meters with 7.30 seconds. At the end of June she won the bronze medal over 100 meters at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 11.53 s behind the French Orlann Ombissa-Dzangue and Rafaela Spanoudaki-Chatziriga from Greece. In addition, she won the bronze medal behind the teams from France and Spain with the relay in 43.63 s. She also qualified for the European Championships in Berlin , where she was eliminated in the semi-finals over 100 meters with 11.62 seconds.

At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , she finished fifth in 44.29 s and in autumn she reached the final at the World Championships in Doha with the relay and finished seventh there in 42.98 s. Then she was at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 11.66 s sixth over 100 meters, as well as with the relay in 44.95 s.

The daughter of the former sprinter Giovanni Bongiorni was Italian champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay from 2015 to 2018 and indoor champion in the 60 meter run in 2017 and 2018.
