Andrew William Pozzi (born May 15, 1992 in Stratford-upon-Avon ) is a British hurdler who specializes in the 110-meter hurdles .
Career
Andrew Pozzi gained his first international experience at the 2009 Youth World Championships in Brixen , where he reached the semi-finals. Two years later he won the silver medal in 13.57 s at the European Junior Championships in the Estonian capital Tallinn . In 2012 he qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul , where he finished fourth with 7.58 s over 60 meter hurdles. During the season he qualified for the Summer Olympics in London , where he had to end his race early on the first lap .
In 2014 he again took part in the World Indoor Championships in Sopot , where he again finished fourth in the final in 7.53 s. Due to an injury, he was unable to contest any races for the entire outdoor season or 2015. In 2016 he reached the final at the European Championships in Amsterdam , but did not compete there. He qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 13.67 s in the first semifinals .
In 2017, he won the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 7.51 seconds, just beating Frenchman Pascal Martinot-Lagarde . This was followed by participation in the World Championships in London, where he was eliminated with 13.28 s in the semi- finals. In 2018 he celebrated his greatest success to date by winning the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 7.46 s. In April 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , finishing seventh in 13.53 s.
In 2012 and 2016 as well as 2018 Pozzi was British champion over 110 meter hurdles and in 2014 and between 2016 and 2018 indoor champion over 60 meter hurdles.
