Günther Nickel

Günther Nickel (born March 24, 1946 in Munich ) is a former German athlete .

Life

Nickel was a sprinter and a hurdler. His best performance over 100 meters was 10.2 seconds, over 110 meter hurdles 13.5 seconds. Heinz Schlundt discovered him and trained him. The greatest international successes were winning the gold medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1970 in Vienna over 60 meter hurdles as well as indoor world best performances over 50 meter hurdles with 6.2 s (February 26, 1970 in Leverkusen ) and over 60 meter hurdles with 7.5 s (January 31, 1970 in Mainz ). In the years 1968 to 1975, Nickel was German champion several times in the hurdles and once in the 100-meter sprint (August 8, 1970 inBerlin ). He was trained by decathlon Olympic champion Willi Holdorf .

Also in bobsleigh took Nickel participate in international competitions. At the 1974 Bobsleigh World Championship in St. Moritz , he took fifth place as a brakeman for Horst Floth in the four-man bobsleigh.

The lawyer works as an entrepreneur in the real estate industry. He is married to the former hurdler Ursula Schalück and has two sons.
