Airinė Palšytė (born July 13, 1992 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian high jumper .

Private

From 1998 Airinė Palšytė attended the Simonas Stanevičius Middle School in Vilnius in Fabijoniškės . At one time she attended the choir, piano, ballet and basketball training at the same time . She took part in two song festivals with a choir . After graduating from high school from 2006 to 2010 at the "Žemynos" high school in Šeškinė , Palšytė completed a bachelor's degree in Business Information Management at the Faculty of Communication and then a Master’s degree (Marketing and Integrated Communications) at the Faculty of Economics at Vilnius University .

Her father is Aurimas Palšis (* 1968), a professional basketball player. Her mother is Daiva Palšienė, a graduate of the Sports University of Lithuania . Her brother is Dominykas Palšis (* 1994) is two years younger, a hobby basketball player, and works as a sales manager in the BTT Group.

Palšytė is single.

Athletic career

Airinė Palšytė played her first international competition in 2008 at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where she was eliminated with 1.74 m in qualification. In 2009 she was fourth at the World Youth Championships in Bressanone and took part in the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha , where she was sixteenth. At the European Championships in Barcelona she did not reach the final with a skipped 1.90 m and finished 18th. In contrast, she won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Moncton, Canada, with a skipped 1.89 m. Also in 2010, Palšytė became the Lithuanian high jump champion. At the Junior European Championships in Tallinn , she won the silver medal with skipped 1.91 m. At the European Indoor Championships in Paris , she could not qualify for the final again. At the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen , however, she equalized the Lithuanian record of 1.96 m and thus won the silver medal behind the American Brigetta Barrett .

In 2012 she retired from the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul with 1.92 m in qualification. At the European Championships in Helsinki , she finished ninth. She also took part in the Olympic Games in London , where she finished eleventh in the final . In 2013 she won the silver medal behind the Italian Alessia Trost at the U23 European Championships in Tampere . At the World Championships in Moscow , she finished 12th in the final. In 2014, she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, and came 13th at the European Championships in Zurich . In 2015 she narrowly missed a medal in fourth place at the European Indoor Championships in Prague . At the student world games in Gwangju she won the gold medal this time with 1.84 m. At the World Championships in Beijing , however, she was eliminated in qualification .

In 2016 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she finished fourth. In June she won the silver medal with Mirela Demirewa at the European Championships in Amsterdam with a skipped 1.96 m . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , however, she only finished 13th in the final . In 2017, the Lithuanian won the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade with a new national record of 2.01 m ahead of Olympic champion Ruth Beitia . After she was unable to compete for most of the season due to injury, she reached seventh place at the World Championships in London with 1.92 m in the final . Two weeks later she won the bronze medal at the Student World Games in Taipei with a jump of 1.91 m. At the end of 2017 she was named Lithuania's Sportswoman of the Year . The following year she was fourth at the European Championships in Berlin with a height of 1.96 m and in 2019 she won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with 1.97 m behind the Russian Marija Lassizkene and Julija Levtschenko from Ukraine.

In 2010 and between 2012 and 2018, Palšytė became the Lithuanian high jump champion, and between 2010 and 2012 and 2014 to 2017 also indoor champion.
