Anna Rüh (born June 17, 1993 in Greifswald , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) is a German athlete who specializes in the shot put and discus throw .

career path

The sports school in Neubrandenburg left Rüh after high-school diploma , completed her training as a clerk for office communication in June 2013 and can concentrate through their employment in the Sports Company of the Armed Forces on the sport.

Athletic career

Rüh came to athletics at the age of six through sports lessons at school. At the age of 14 she went to Neubrandenburg because of the better training conditions and came to the throwing disciplines .

Rüh competed at the European Junior Championships in Tallinn in 2011 in both discus and shot put : In discus, she took second place behind her teammate Shanice Craft , in the shot put she won the bronze medal behind the German Lena Urbaniak and with a personal best of 16.01 m the Polish Anna Wloka.

At the end of May 2012 Anna Rüh exceeded the Olympic standard in discus throwing at the Halle Throwing Days with 63.04 m, and at the German championships she improved again to 63.14 m, taking third place behind Nadine Müller and Julia Fischer . At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 , Rüh threw the discus to 62.65 m and took fourth place. Two weeks later she won the title at the Junior World Championships 2012 with 62.38 m ahead of Shanice Craft, both German throwers had been behind the American Shelbi Vaughan until the last attempt. At the Olympic Games shortly afterwards, she reached tenth place in London.

In 2011, 2013 and 2015, Rüh was the best of the year in the age group of juniors in the discus throw, and in 2012 in that of the female youth / U20. Rüh belongs to the A-squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

At the beginning of 2016, Rüh achieved a new personal best in the shot put at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig with 17.68 m and on May 15 with 63.42 m at the Throwers Cup in Wiesbaden exceeded the standard of 61.00 m for qualifying for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

In 2017, Rüh came in 5th place in the shot put at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig and was German runner-up in the discus throw in Erfurt .

Club membership

Rüh starts for the Magdeburg sports club . She was previously at SC Neubrandenburg and Greifswalder SV 04 .
