Meri Kristiina Mäkelä (born November 20, 1992 in Orimattila ) is a Finnish three-jumper .
Athletic career
Kristiina Mäkelä gained her first international experience at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Brixen , where she finished sixth with 13.03 m. She also took part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere , where she won the silver medal with 13.14 m. In 2010 she finished seventh at the Junior World Championships in Moncton, Canada with 13.26 m. A year later she won the silver medal at the Junior European Championships in Tallinn with 13.67 m. In 2012 she did not succeed in qualifying for the European Championships in Helsinki and was therefore eliminated. In 2015 she was eighth at the European Indoor Championships in Prague with a height of 13.66 m . During the outdoor season, she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing and was eliminated there with 13.83 m in qualification . In 2016 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she finished sixth with 14.07 m. At the European Championships in Amsterdam , she finished ninth with 13.95 m. She managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished twelfth in the final with 13.95 m. In 2017 she took part in the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade , where she reached the final and finished in eighth place with 13.36 m. She qualified again for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated with 13.92 m in qualification .
In 2018 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she finished 16th with 13.73 m. She also made it to the final at the European Championships in Berlin , where she finished ninth with a width of 14.01 m. In 2019 she took sixth place in the final at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with a width of 14.29 m.
In 2009, 2011 and between 2015 and 2018 Mäkelä became Finnish champion in the triple jump outdoors. In addition, she won the indoor championship title in 2012 and between 2015 and 2018 and 2017 in the long jump.
