Klaus Klostermaier

Klaus Konrad Klostermaier (born 1933 in Munich ) is a German researcher on Hinduism and the history of India and the culture of India.

Life

Klostermaier received his PhD in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1961 and in Indology from the University of Bombay in 1969 .

In 1970 he became a member of the Faculty of Religious Studies at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He also worked there from 1986 to 1995 as head of a center for religion and culture.

In 1998 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and served at the University of Manitoba as Head of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Director of the Asian Studies Center .

In 2004 a commemorative publication was published in his honor. Klostermaier spent ten years in India researching primary sources in various languages, including Sanskrit , Hindi , Pali , Latin , Greek , German , Italian and French .
