Lukas Weißhaidinger (born February 20, 1992 in Schärding ) is an Austrian discus thrower .

Career

Weißhaidinger (nickname "Lucky Luky") was born in Schärding and lives in Taufkirchen an der Pram , where he also built his own training hall. Weißhaidinger is a member of the ÖTB-OÖ. Athletics Association.

On August 1, 2015 Weißhaidinger succeeded in a Invitation Meeting in Schwechat with a new Austrian record of 67.24 to qualify for the outdoor world championships in 2015 and the Olympics in 2016. The m discus throw competitions at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 Weißhaidinger to reach sixth overall. On September 3, 2016, he won the discus throwing competition at ISTAF Berlin . After the successful 2016 season, he moved his training to Südstadt and has been trained by Gregor Högler ever since .

In March 2017 Weißhaidinger won the Winter Throw European Cup on Las Palmas with a throw of 65.73 m. At the start of the season he took part in the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix and finished fourth there. At the World Championships in London he came in ninth place with 63.76 m.

In April 2018 he improved his own Austrian record on Tenerife by almost one meter to 68.21 m, and on May 20, this record was further improved with 68.98 m.

At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 , he celebrated his first major success at a major international event by winning the bronze medal in the discus throw.

In the course of the Diamond League 2018 , Weißhaidinger qualified for the final in Brussels for the first time . There he was fifth with 65.66 m. A year later he qualified again for the final of the Diamond League. In this he reached second place with 66.03 m and received a check for $ 20,000.
