Irene Siragusa (born June 23, 1993 in Poggibonsi ) is an Italian athlete who specializes in 100- and 200-meter runs and is particularly successful with the 4-by-100-meter relay .

Athletic career

In 2011 Irene Siragusa took part in the U20 European Championships in Tallinn , where she won the silver medal with the Italian relay. Over 200 meters, she was eliminated in the lead. At the Junior World Championships she failed over 200 meters in the semifinals and with the relay in the preliminary round. At the U23 European Championships in Tampere 2013 , Siragusa started over 100 meters for the first time and was able to take seventh place in the final. She reached the semi-finals over 200 meters and won bronze with the 4 x 100 meter relay. At the European Championships in 2014 , Siragusa dropped out of the 100 and 200 meters in the semifinals and just barely missed another medal with fourth place in the relay. The U23 European Championships in Tallinn were again very successful. Over 100 meters she took sixth place and over 200 meters she was eliminated again in the preliminary run. The relay of the Italians won the silver medal this time and Siragusa received a starting place for the relay for the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , in which the Italian relay was eliminated in the preliminary run.

In 2016, Siragusa started at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam over both sprint distance courses and with the relay. While they were eliminated in the preliminary round in both individual competitions, the Italian relay reached the finals and finished eighth there. In 2017 she won the Universiade in Taipei in 22.96 s over 200 meters and took second place in 11.31 s over 100 meters behind the Jamaican Sashalee Forbes .
